Getting Married in Vegas

Las Vegas Weddings are popular because:

  • No Wait Period
  • No Blood Test
  • Easy Paperwork
  • Great Honeymoon Location
  • Variety of Wedding Packages

Both must show up 8am-Midnight (no longer 24 hours) with a total of $60 cash, check or money order to process both of your forms. They now accept credit cards (not true debit cards) but charge an extra $5 for it. You can fill out the forms at the Marriage Bureau or fill them out ahead of time. Here is the contact info:

Marriage License Tips

Usually lines don't start until about 9:30-10 am so you can usually breeze through at 8 am unless there is a major holiday. Clark County averaged 254 marriage license applications per day in 2009. Expect weekends to be 3X as busy as a weekday.

You may get sales pitches from commercial chapels. If you are budget minded, you should consider them as they can undercut the $50 fee at the Office of Civil Marriages (a Justice of the Peace type of County marriage). If you are not budget minded, try to ignore them as best as you can.

You will recieve 2 licenses. Keep the color version as a souvenir (not certified) but give the black and white version to the minister or civil marriage officiant at the time of your wedding. He or she has up to 10 days to send it to Clark County to be processed which usually will be the same or next day.

Most of the time, you will want a marriage abstract as proof of marriage but the certified copy of the marriage certificate is also the same $15.00. You can get both from the Clark County Recorder for $30.00 total just to be safe.

Clark County Recorder
P.O. Box 551510
Las Vegas, Nevada 89155-1510
(702) 455-4336

Here are the 8 forms of ID that are accepted for the marriage license:

  • Driver’s License, Instruction Permit, State ID
  • Passport
  • Foreign government issued ID (must include birth date)
  • Matricula Consular Card
  • Military/Dependent ID
  • Citizenship, Naturalization, Permanent/Temporary Resident Cards
  • Voter ID (must include birth date)
  • Birth Certificate (notarized, translated if foreign) plus secondary ID with name and photo

The secondary ID can be a Gaming/Sherrif's Work Card, Employee ID, Membership card requiring ID such as Costco, Sam's club or a Credit Card.

For information on where to get married, see our chapel discussion which also has information on the Office of Civil Marriages.
